There are two types of dentures for individuals looking to replace missing teeth and surrounding tissues. The first, complete dentures are best used when all the teeth are missing. Second, partial dentures are best when some natural teeth remain. Our dental office in Walled Lake MI, offers full-service dental solutions including dentures.

Dentures Offer an Excellent Solution for Individuals with Missing Teeth

Complete dentures are either immediate or conventional. They are placed after the teeth have been removed and the healing of the gum tissue is at a safe level (typically 8-12 weeks after teeth have been removed). Immediate dentures can be placed once the teeth are removed. Unlike conventional dentures, the individual does not need to be without teeth as the gums heal. There are some drawbacks with immediate dentures as your dentist will need to make adjustments, so they fit properly during the healing process. In many cases, immediate dentures are considered “temporary” until conventional dentures are available.

Partial dentures (or bridges) are replacement teeth that are attached to a “gum-colored” plastic base. Sometimes partial dentures are connected by metal framework that holds the denture in place. As noted above, partial dentures are best when one or more natural teeth remain in the upper or lower jaw.
