Orthodontics has significantly progressed over the years. Our Walled Lake dental practice, uses the latest technology to help our patients achieve a healthy and long lasting smile. Any individual with braces, should pay extra attention to their teeth in order to protect them from staining, decay, and even worse – gum disease. It goes without saying that you should take extra measures to avoid eating “chewy” sweets or hard foods.

We all have heard countless times the importance of regular bushing. Brushing regularly is especially important for persons wearing braces, as they should brush after every meal. The obvious reason is that food particles can easily become “trapped” in the braces. This is a major concern because the longer that food is trapped, you have a much greater risk of developing oral health problems down the road.

Much debate has surrounded the type of toothbrush to use. We always suggest for individuals to use a soft toothbrush. It is important to brush at and around the gum line while you gently work your teeth, above and below the braces. Rinsing your mouth before and after brushing will help loosen food particles that may be trapped in your braces.
